What are stem cells/amniontic tissue?
Amnion is the layer of the placenta that closely covers an embryo during its development. It is rich in stem cells and facilitates the growth and development of a fetus. Human Amniotic Tissue grafts are taken from healthy and consenting mothers following elective C-section births. After undergoing a rigorous testing process similar to a blood donation, the placenta tissue is cleaned and preserved for medical use.
The placenta and amniotic sac contain growth factors that:
- Attract stem cells to repair the body
- Stimulate the flow of oxygen and nutrients
- Increase and trigger the growth of connective tissue
What is it used for?
Amniotic tissue/stem cells are available in an injectable form that treats a variety of painful foot conditions, like plantar fasciitis, by reducing inflammation, decreasing scar tissue formation, and enhancing the healing of soft tissue micro-tears.
What to expect
When your foot pain doesn’t respond to conservative treatments like rest, anti-inflammatories, and bracing, stem cell a relatively quick alternative and is performed on-site in our office.
After your injection, you may have tenderness or redness at the treatment site. This response is normal and typically fades within 2-3 days.
You can expect to see improvement and increased function within a week of treatment. As your tissue continues regenerating and healing, you continue seeing results over the next several weeks.
